🏏 Horsham Junior Cricket Smash Competition – Program Overview
The Horsham Junior Cricket Smash Competition is an exciting new six-week competition designed to introduce Grade 3 & 4 students to cricket in a fun, fast, and supportive environment. Delivered in partnership by Kelly Sports (KS), Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly (WRSA), and the Horsham Cricket Association (HCA), this program provides a clear pathway into local cricket clubs for enthusiastic players and families.

- Duration: 6 weeks
- Location: City Oval
- Arrival Time: 3:45pm
- Program Start: 4pm
- Cost: Free – fully funded

- Participants: Grade 3 & 4 students
🕒 Weekly Match Day Flow
1. 4pm – Whistle blown at Oval 1
- Players, parents, and officials gather together.
2. Warm Up – Oval 2
- Players complete a group warm-up run by a KS/WRSA coach.
3. Parent Briefing – Oval 1
- Parents remain on Oval 1 for a short info session on:
- Rules
- Fixtures
- Team coordination and match-day support
4. Match Play – Super 8’s Format
- 8 players per team
- Each player bowls one over & wicketkeeps during their pair’s bowling
- Players bat in pairs, facing 2 overs each
- The bowling team earns a bonus 5 runs for each wicket taken, with the strike rotating after every dismissal
🌟 Program Structure
Team Allocation:
- KS/WRSA will create teams prior to competition. Team & player allocations will be communicated via email & posted via the Kelly Sports & Wimmera Regional Sports Assembly social media streams.
- Teams may be adjusted throughout the competition to ensure fair play and balance. If your child is to be moved to a different team, this will be communicated in advance.
- Each team will be assigned a name and colour – players are encouraged to wear their colour top each week.
Match Day Coaching:
- KS/WRSA coaches run the matches. This will involve coaching, paired allocations & match day umpiring.
- Parents/guardians will be most welcome to be involved. Our KS/WRSA staff will provide any parents/guardians support if they wish to help score matches, organise batting and bowling pairs, or, umpire
Equipment:
- All cricket equipment provided by Kelly Sports.
🏟 Information Tent
- Located in front of the clubrooms each week, the Information Tent will include:
- Blue Sheet: Weekly scorecards
- Yellow Sheet: Rules booklet
- Fixture: Match schedule
- Results: Ladder and weekly results table
- First Aid: Onsite support available
🔗 Pathways
The Horsham Cricket Association will have an active presence throughout the program. With support from KS and WRSA, players and families will be encouraged to explore local club pathways, ensuring long-term engagement in cricket. Parents/guardians will also be informed about coaching opportunities, with HCA, KS, and WRSA providing guidance and support.
